Parent, grandparent, wife, research scientist, main cook and usual bottle washer (even in this day and age!), Ruth continues her practice of spending one and a half days a week with her grandchildren. As our child-development columnist, Ruth's research and lecture circuit will take her from coast to coast this summer, where she'll talk with grandparents, parents, teachers, and even children about growing up. “We all continue to grow up, even as we age,” says Ruth, now sixty-three, “and listening to our grandchildren is perhaps the finest way to age with wisdom and grace.” Says her grandson, Saul, “I feel playish today, Grammy,” which means Saul needs Ruth to get down on her hands and knees and seriously save all the little characters Saul has scattered throughout the house. Wisdom, the better part of reason, gently pulls her to the carpet floor. |
